After almost 22 years, I decided to move my website to a new domain. I previously wrote about the increase in "fan mail" from illiterate idiots, and the volume has continued to rapidly climb. While annoying, it's not necessarily a huge deal, and even I'm not that much of a prima donna.

But over the past few weeks I've also experienced pretty substantial increase in attacks, including a couple of minor, but sustained ones. In both cases, they seemed to be probing the site pretty hard for 10+ minutes, to the point that my firewall sent me email about it. Now, I get all kinds of attempted intrusions, logins, and so on, which is pretty much par for the course for anything on the web these days. In the few days after the ill-fated Iran excursion war started I had a little more than 1,000 visits from Iranian IP addresses. Go figure.

But I'm just doing this for fun and I don't really want to deal with constantly trying to defend my site from every dumbass criminal on the web, nor do I have the resources to deal with a high-volume DDoS, should it come to that. It's a real shame that the entire internet has turned into an infinite shit show. Not to sound too much like an ancient codger, but I miss the 90s.

I'm still using the old domain and may bring back that site in some capacity later on. But this is now the place to showcase my work and random musings. And speaking of that, it's been a busy couple of months but I actually do intend to start putting stuff up more regularly now. (Yeah, I know, good intentions and all…)
